VR Minigolf is Here and Real Minigolf Should be Scared

The anticipation for the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) is heating up. Virtual reality has an amazing capacity to make you feel like you are somewhere else, and to step into new worlds, Cloudlands: VR Minigolf takes advantage of that.

As the name suggests, Cloudlands: VR Minigolf is a mini golf simulator. The game is played using the HTC Vive and just one Vive controller, held like a golf club. However, whether or not the game is HTC Vive exclusive, we don’t know yet.

There is really not much to say about the gameplay. It is basically just minigolf, like in real life. There are realistic earth like tracks, some futuristic tracks and some really tricky, elaborate ones that will require you to really concentrate and think.  Each hole offers a varied challenge with players making use of ball cannons, floating bridges, and an other objects to get their best score. The developers are considering adding a level editor so anyone can create their own ridiculous mini golf tracks for the game, and add more replay-ability to the game.

The game will feature two multiplayer modes. Either online in sessions where you join others in VR for a game, or locally using just one HTC Vive setup. You will simply pass off the headset between turns.

As shown in the video players start by choosing to play a random 9-holes or play through the entire 18-hole course. Current records are shown on a floating board between the two options.

Cloudland’s release date will coincide with the launch of the HTC Vive hardware. The studio is also working on two other VR titles. Jeeboman – a retro inspired arcade shooter and a space-based game featuring a shooting range, designed as an entry point for first time VR users.
